9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with a 30-minute break for lunch each day

Class Fee: $225 WMQFA Member (with member discount code) / $250 Non Member

Class Description:

This class starts with building your subject by fusing; then completing the background with strips (torn and/or cut) of fabric fused to batting. This background is straight stitch machine quilted. After background is built, your real or somewhat real subject is fused and free motion quilted down. All work is done by machine. Must have some sewing experience and be comfortable with your machine. Machine required and should be capable of free-motion stitching. Finishing options will be discussed.

Class Fee: $125 / WMQFA Members (with member code); $150 / Non Members

Workshop Description:

Each participant will receive a Japanese artisan apron sewn into a bag body. The bag will be a cross-body style. We will spend time on “Chiku Chiku” (big running stitches) to complete a long sash and pockets. Takako will also talk about Japanese fabrics and how they were used.  

There will be some machine sewing to be done at home to assemble the bag after the workshop.

The kit fee is included in the class fee. The kit includes one prepared apron bag, sewn sash, Sashiko thread, needle, kaya, and Boro fabrics.

Recommended skill level for participants: basic hand-sewing skills

WMQFA is partnering with MKElifestyle Magazine on their launch of Makers Mingle.

Enjoy tasty appetizers and seasonal beverages while you craft and chat. The museum will guide you through a weaving activity while you socialize, and you’ll have time to tour the current exhibition.

Stitch together felted penguins, owls, hearts and other shapes to make fun, seasonal gift toppers or magnets.

Registration includes food, drink, instruction, museum admission, and all supplies. No experience needed!

10:30am – 3:30pm Third Thursdays each month! Except JUNE 29 (5th Thursday)

Join the casual and productive fiber-arts-social-program on the Third Thursday of each month.

Bring your project in progress or planning and get feedback and encouragement from other fiber enthusiasts. Whether you are sewing, quilting, mending, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, tatting, weaving, all projects are welcome. Fiber Friends is an ideal opportunity to pick up tips, to try new techniques and to share your love of fiber arts with others. Schedule some “me” time to get that project finished or to spend the day with like-minded makers who enjoy sharing the creative process.

Sewing supplies, irons, large worktables, and coffee/ tea pots are available for your use during each session.

New This Year: Sessions do NOT need to be consecutive.

Victoria Findlay Wolfe is a New York City-based Award-winning quilter, designer and author of 15 Minutes of Play:  Improvisational Quilts; Double Wedding Ring Quilts:  Traditions Made Modern; and Modern Quilt Magic:  5 Parlor Tricks to Expand Your Piecing Skills (C&T publishing).

Her work has been exhibited, written about, and featured on Sewing with Nancy and many other TV and online shows. Her quilt Double Edged Love, won Best in Show at the first QuiltCon in Austin, Texas, 2013.

Victoria has exhibited at the WMQFA, taught here multiple times, and serves on the museum’s Curatorial Advisory Board.
